Mock Mola

Alice Ridge

March 27, 2025

9 AM - 3:30 PM

Class Level: All

Mock Mola Workshop Description

Have you looked at the beautiful Molas from Panama and gone green with envy ?  I have!  I love the look of Traditional Molas, with all the layers of colored fabrics and fancy stitches !

I thought that I would make one myself, but then really turned green when I realized how much detail work and teeny tiny stitches were involved !

So, I created this class to modify the Traditional Mola by using Felt to make a project that keeps the style and colors of the original, but is so much easier and faster!

This is a hand work class, but it is easy and relaxing to do.

I hope you enjoy these Molas as much as I do!

About Alice

This is me hanging out with the monkeys in Gibralter!!

I learned how to sew and embroider by hand when I was in second grade, taught by my grandmother and my great aunt. I got my first sewing machine when I was in 5 th grade and have been sewing ever since.

I have been quilting on and off for over 40 years. I have been a Traveling Quilt Teacher and Speaker for about fifteen years. Just about all quilting styles appeal to me. Handwork and machine, traditional to art quilts. I love to try new techniques and ‘tweak’ old ones to make them new and fresh! I have a small rigid heddle loom to weave my own fabric to incorporate into some of my art quilts. I love playing with the different textures that you can get from different fibers! I also crochet and knit, and am learning how to tat lace. Never a dull moment!

Personal info:

I am married to a career Army man ( he finally retired after 35 yrs Active Duty !!) and have traveled all over the world. We have lived on 3 continents….we moved 22 times in 35 years. We bought our “forever” house and I don’t intend to ever move again!! I have 3 children - 2 daughters and 1 son. The girls are in Indiana, my son is in the Army and his location changes as often as ours did! Such is life in the military! I have 4 grandchildren - 2 girls and 2 boys, all of them in Indiana.

Thanks for Sharing in my Quilting Adventures!!

About Pat

Pat Yamin launched Come Quilt With Me in 1981, when there were very few sources of quilting supplies.

She researched and networked and found products for quilters to use, enabling and encouraging them to make quilts easily and simply. Today, CQWM is a well-known, worldwide quilting company.

Over the years, while in transit to quilt shows for vending, teaching, lecturing, or judging, Pat found herself with a lot of idle waiting time at airports, as well as in flight, so the idea was born—word search puzzles for quilters. Pat's fascination with words and her avid interest in sewing and quilting come together in these fun and entertaining puzzles.

BORO Small Project Design

June Coburn

May 29, 2025

9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Class Level: All

Workshop Description

PROJECT SIZE:  12” - 16” square or rectangle

Join June and fellow quilters to learn the art of boro.

Historically, boro (meaning “tattered”) was used to describe the garments and household goods made from re-purposed fabrics, generally purchased with stains, holes and tears.  Women stitched these damaged pieces together, adding others on top or on the back to fill in the missing fabric.

Boro was never meant to be beautiful—it was utilitarian, plain and simple.  The stitches are not perfect or pretty; there was no time for useless thread ornamentation, or extra thread, for that matter.  It is only with growing prosperity and hindsight that textile lovers the world over have come to appreciate the work involved in making something useable from nothing.

Actual boro was stitched by re-using thread removed from seams in ragged garments or futon covers.  Or they were pulled from woven fabric to use for stitching.  It was generally coarse and much thicker than machine thread

There is no pattern for boro. Larger pieces are sewn together in the most economical way possible, regardless of color.  Smaller pieces are placed over or under the holes, rips and worn areas to repair them.  The class sampler could be finished as a tote bag or incorporated in a larger project.
