Purpose/Objective:
To raise money for charity by selling our members’ handmade items. This is replacing the silent auction we’ve had for the past few years. The auction was felt to be inefficient and unfair to those not staying for the entire 2 day show.
Value:
Allows members to contribute something they enjoy making, big or small.
Allows members who may not be available to work the show, to contribute in some way.
Allows our guild to continue it’s priority of charitable giving (charity TBD).
We are Accepting:
Fabric/fiber-related handmade items that have an appeal to a buyer. Examples might be placemats/napkins, table runners, mug rugs/coasters, fabric bags/pouches, thread catchers, pin cushions, holiday items, ornaments, baby items,
knitted/crochet items, wall decor. Quilts are of coarse accepted but keep in mind we need to price these things to sell so lower priced items, perhaps under $25, may be more likely to sell.
Not Accepted:
Food items, store bought items, quilting accessories, used sewing machines. For this first year we want to keep it strictly a handmade fabric/fiber boutique.
When/Where:
We’ll be accepting donated items at the general guild meetings starting in May. We’ll have bins available to drop off at the church those nights, location TBD.
If unable to attend meetings, items can be dropped off at Carine’s front screened porch - 5217 Fairmount Ave, Downers Grove. (Gotta get Carine’s approval on this before you go to print).
Details:
Along with donated items, makers will attach a printed form with name, suggested price, and whether they'd like their item returned or donated to charity, if it does not sell. We will have that form available here, in the near future or we can have that available at drop off
We’d like the ability to adjust the suggested price, if needed, to ensure a sale. We may be looking at options of discounting all unsold items at the end of the show. TBD
